Job Title: Lead Database Engineer
Location: India and US

About this Role
The Senior Database Migration Engineer will be responsible for end‑to‑end planning, preparation, execution, cutover, and post‑migration handover of Oracle, Exadata, and Microsoft SQL Server databases as part of a structured, wave‑based datacentre or platform migration program.
The role demands strong expertise in enterprise database platforms, automation‑driven migrations, governance‑led execution, and close coordination with application, middleware, and infrastructure teams in a regulated BFS environment.
In this Role, You Will:
Planning & Assessment
- Develop the overall database migration strategy, sequencing, and wave plan
- Validate source and target platform readiness for Exadata and SQL Server VM environments
- Perform database discovery, dependency mapping, and classification for migration sequencing
- Conduct compatibility checks covering database versions, patch levels, character sets, storage layouts, and connectivity
- Identify migration tooling and automation requirements, including AMA readiness
- Prepare migration workflows and cutover approaches aligned to Wells Fargo SOPs, runbooks, and governance
Migration Preparation
- Perform pre‑migration technical checks for Oracle and SQL Server environments
- Validate and coordinate target environment readiness (DB servers, ASM/storage, clusters, network reachability, RBAC)
- Plan and schedule migration waves with application and infrastructure teams
- Configure replication, data movement, or export/import workflows per approved approach
- Ensure automation jobs and scripts are tested and governance‑compliant
- Stage scripts, job templates, and automation artifacts for migration execution
Migration Execution
- Build and configure databases on target platforms
- Execute database replication, data copy, or migration jobs using AMA or equivalent tools
- Perform backup of source databases prior to migration
- Monitor data transfer, replication health, and execution status
- Resolve migration‑related errors impacting synchronization or readiness
- Maintain real‑time migration tracking and reporting
- Coordinate with storage, compute, and network teams during execution
Cutover Activities
- Execute controlled cutover during approved freeze windows
- Perform final sync, switchover, role transition, and database activation
- Conduct post‑activation checks (listener, connectivity, instance health)
- Validate application‑to‑database connectivity
- Update migration trackers, wave dashboards, and cutover logs
- Coordinate with application teams for functional validation and acceptance
Post‑Migration Handover & Decommissioning
- Perform post‑migration verification, including performance baseline and data consistency checks
- Support hypercare and stabilization, addressing migration exceptions
- Assist with application reconnection and downstream validation
- Document migration outcomes and final signoff
- Execute source shutdown, cleanup, and decommissioning per Wells Fargo‑approved process
- Handover updated configurations, documentation, and final migration reports to operations
Desired Qualifications:
Database Administrator (Oracle / Exadata / MS SQL)
- 8–12+ years of experience as an Enterprise Database Administrator supporting Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server platforms in large‑scale environments
- Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and administration for:
- Oracle (11g/12c/19c) including Exadata
- Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) on VM platforms
- Proven experience supporting datacenter or platform migration programs, including planning, execution, cutover, and post‑migration stabilization
- Hands‑on expertise in:
- Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN
- SQL Server Always On, clustering, backup/restore, and replication
- Database build, configuration, and hardening on target environments
- Strong experience performing pre‑migration readiness checks, including:
- Version and patch compatibility
- Character set and collation validation
- Storage layout and capacity planning
- Connectivity and access validation
- Solid understanding of backup, recovery, and rollback strategies to support migration and cutover activities
- Experience executing and validating database replication, data copy, or export/import–based migration approaches
- Strong knowledge of HA/DR concepts, failover testing, and production cutover best practices
- Ability to perform post‑migration validation, including data consistency checks and performance baseline comparisons
- Experience working in regulated BFS environments with strict governance, audit, and change control requirements
- Hands‑on exposure to automation‑driven database migration or administration (scripts, job scheduling, tooling such as AMA or equivalent) is a plus
- Working experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and CMDB updates as part of migration execution and operational handover
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to produce runbooks, migration reports, and handover artifacts
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work closely with application, infrastructure, and operations teams
