Job Description
The Associate Director, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence (MRCI), Pipeline and Early Assets will be responsible for recommending, designing, and executing qualitative and quantitative primary market research to provide actionable information and insights to support Alkermes’ early-stage pipeline. The role will work closely with the New Product Planning (NPP) group, and interface with clinical and commercial functions as needed to inform the development of pipeline products by understanding treatment provider, consumer, and payer perceptions.

Work with NPP stakeholders to identify knowledge gaps that can be addressed with MR and CI.
Leverage in-house data & analyses to identify need for primary research, inform approaches, and ensure results complement existing data, CI, and forecasts.
Design and execute primary market research projects, including defining business question(s), developing methodologies, managing vendors, analyzing study data, and communicating results, interpretations, and recommendations to a variety of cross-functional stakeholders.
Design and field primary CI investigations to inform pipeline development decisions. Collaborate with Alkermes CI team as needed.
Integrate data sources from a wide variety of studies, analyze data, and communicate insights and recommendations.
Quickly become an expert in assigned market(s), related commercial products, and any potential new markets.
Build a strong strategic partnership with NPP and serve as a key thought partner for NPP team to maximize insight leverage and business impact.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, science, or quantitative disciplines such as mathematics or statistics.
Minimum of 8 years in the pharmaceutical industry with at least 5 years in market research or consulting.
Demonstrated success leading market research to support advancement of early-stage pipeline products.
Experience gathering insights and assessing business opportunities across global markets.
Knowledge / Skills Needed
Strong understanding of market research tools and techniques.
Experience with HCP, patient, and payer market research.
Strong foundation in science and drug development as appropriate to support pipeline products.
Understanding of pharmaceutical marketing and market access.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical sales / marketing databases and secondary data sources.
Strong analytical, organization and planning skills.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the established ability to effectively communicate study results and recommendations to diverse audiences.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Personal Attributes Needed
Ability to proactively work with commercial stakeholders, take full ownership of market research projects, and meticulously manage market research vendors.
Ability to coordinate and influence the efforts of cross-functional teams.
Ability to make frank, well-supported recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Ability to see the big picture from disparate information and present complex data in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to synthesize data from multiple sources to address complex business questions.
Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects with tight, changing deadlines.
Alkermes has recently adopted a hybrid working environment to support and meet the needs of employees and this role will operate in a flexible environment with 60% of time in the office and 40% from home. This position is eligible for the hybrid workplace model, requiring work to be completed onsite at our Waltham, MA office at least 3 days per week. This role is not eligible for fully remote work.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,000 to $186,000. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual performance pay bonus. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, training, knowledge, and experience. Alkermes offers a competitive benefits package.
