Shift Supervisor
Reports to: Program Manager
Hours: Full Time position - 40 hours per week
Shifts: Afternoon. Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday
HFI Mission Duties:
Holy Family Institute (HFI) is a 120-year-old Catholic organization with an impeccable history of serving children and families in the Pittsburgh Region. We are one of Pittsburgh's largest social service organizations operating 15 programs in two counties. We are an independent organization guided by Catholic Social Teachings and serving people of all faiths and backgrounds.
General Statement of Duties:
The Shift Supervisor assists the Program Manager in performing administrative and supervisory functions, which are necessary for the operation of the Journey of Hope (UC-Unaccompanied Alien Children) LTFC program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports program operations by assisting with evaluation, implementation of needs, monitoring staff schedules, and following daily routines.
- Carries out administrative duties, including observations, consultation forms, reports, and ensuring documentation is completed accurately and on time.
- Provides leadership and supervision to staff, offering real-time guidance, feedback, and addressing conflicts or disciplinary issues in collaboration with supervisors.
- Assists with staff development through orientation, training, performance monitoring, evaluations, and facilitating team and transition meetings.
- Demonstrates strong leadership by maintaining professionalism, promoting teamwork, resolving conflicts constructively, and completing tasks efficiently.
- Ensures a safe, structured, and supportive environment by maintaining appropriate supervision, following behavioral plans (HART Model/ISP), and modeling positive interactions.
- Promotes a family-like environment by supporting daily living activities, respecting cultural/religious backgrounds, and engaging youth in meals and group activities.
- Models and teaches appropriate social and conflict resolution skills while using approved behavioral interventions and crisis management techniques.
- Maintains safety and compliance by supervising medication administration, responding to emergencies, securing hazards, and following all policies and procedures.
- Oversees care of resources and property, including maintaining cleanliness, managing supplies and funds, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.
- Completes and reviews all required documentation, including incident reports, medical records, and logs, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
- Supports youth well-being and development by coordinating medical care, assisting with intakes, participating in ISP planning, maintaining confidentiality, and engaging in ongoing training and professional development.
- Completes other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's Degree in the human service field, or Associate Degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university
- Must have Act 33/34 and FBI clearances.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to passively physically restrain a child if necessary.
- Ability to stay awake for entire working shift.
- Ability to verbally de-escalate children during a crisis situation.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Ability to lift or push a minimum of 20 lbs. by themselves or up to 50 lbs. with the assistant of others.
- Ability to verbally de-escalate children during a crisis situation.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Ability to drive a car or van; must have a valid PA driver's license.
