Job Summary

This is an hourly position for current and incoming UM-Dearborn students (work-study preferred). Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.

The University Information Team members serve as campus leaders by providing superb front-line customer service as part of the University Unions & Events (UUE) team. By staffing the Information Center at the Renick University Center, team members provide accurate information, assistance, and personal attention to detail to every individual they interact with in their role in a fast-paced and inclusive environment. University Information Team members help to ensure positive experiences and a sense of community throughout the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and in the heart of our campus community, the Renick University Center.


We are seeking student leaders who are interested in developing a student and guest-focused community at UM-Dearborn and can provide a positive impression of the University through their interactions. Being a part of the University Unions & Events team presents a unique opportunity for students to serve in a student management capacity on campus, and we are seeking applications from students who want to contribute to creating an inclusive and welcoming presence for all individuals who visit the Renick University Center and campus.


Responsibilities

  • Answer and direct patron/customer questions via phone, in person, and email for students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors at the Renick University Center (RUC).
  • Distribute accurate information about building services, campus policies, campus and community events, and other pertinent information.
  • Represent the UM-Dearborn and UUE professionally and courteously, providing a positive experience for all visitors.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to guest requests, complaints, and inquiries.
  • Produce UM ID cards (MCards) for students, faculty, staff, and alumni utilizing a computer, camera, and card printer.
  • Maintain available literature; seek additional community and campus resources and information; investigate and find campus and community information and resources.
  • Open and close the Information Center and assist with opening and closing the Renick University Center.
  • Log detailed notes of interactions and situations, including lost and found items.
  • Attend scheduled staff or other assigned meetings.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Be well educated about University and community activities and resources.
  • Be knowledgeable about the location of departments and services offered on campus.
  • Ensure guest, customer, staff, and building safety, security, and cleanliness. Assist in building evacuations, as needed.
  • Act in accordance with, and enforce, all University and department policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and the UUE Building Managers.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current degree-seeking student enrolled at UM-Dearborn, at least part-time
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and must maintain GPA during employment
  • Lack of judicial or honors offenses
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Be curious about the University of Michigan-Dearborn and the surrounding community, and be skilled at searching for accurate information
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative, attention to detail, and positive attitude
  • Desire to assist others and provide excellent customer service as an individual and as part of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate professional etiquette in person and on the phone at all times
  • Ability to make sound decisions and work independently at times
  • Demonstrated integrity and trustworthiness to maintain confidential student and University information
  • Demonstrated knowledge with the Google suite of programs, including Forms, Docs, Sheets, Chat, Gmail, and others as needed
  • Dependable and able to work a flexible schedule.  Shifts vary: days, nights, weekends, depending on a student's availability
  • Must be available to work for at least one full semester; preference for candidates who can work at least two consecutive semesters.
  • Hiring now for fall openings, so applicants need to be currently enrolled or a new student for Fall 2026.
  • Must be available for training on August 19, 20, and 21, 2026.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Due to the nature of the work, this position is 100% onsite.

Additional Information

All students hired will be expected to participate in training on August 19, 20, and 21, 2026.
